What to Expect as a New Patient
New patient appointments are typically booked about four weeks out. If you're experiencing pain, undergoing fertility treatments, or need more immediate care, please call—we’ll do our best to fit you in sooner.
Health Intake & Consultation
We start with a thorough overview of your diet, sleep, stress levels, lifestyle and overall wellbeing. We’ll also check your pulse and tongue.
Diagnosis & Personalised Plan
After reviewing your full health picture, we’ll explain our diagnosis and create a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
First Acupuncture Treatment
Your first treatment usually happens during this visit. We’ll explain what we do at each step so you feel at ease, comfortable and informed.
Right After Treatment
Some patients feel a sense of euphoria. If you feel spacey please sit quietly for a few minutes until you feel normal. Sip some warm water and take a stroll
Hours After Treatment
Your body goes through physiological re-balancing. To maximize the effects, avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs, over-eating, and drugs or alcohol for several hours. Drink fluids and rest.
Meet Your Acupuncturists
Dr. Britt Peterson, L.Ac, DAOM
Dr Britt is a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and East Asian medicine practitioner. She uses her background, training, and caring nature to help her patients return to and maintain a state of balance and well-being.

She taught yoga, Pilates, and other forms of movement for almost 10 years and is deeply interested in the way the physical body so beautifully connects with our mental and emotional state.
Dr Britt has also earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine (DAIM) from Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College (AIMC) in Berkeley, California.
Her doctoral research was focused on introducing natural, preventative healthcare to teens and young adults.
She is passionate about working with this population to find holistic solutions to anxiety, depression, and stress.
Sheila Shahmirza, L.Ac.
Sheila Shahmirza earned her Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from AIMC Berkeley to combine this personal experience with her long-standing interest in healing work.

Sheila Shahmirza, born and raised in the Bay Area, California, had the benefit of experiencing Acupuncture from a young age and was drawn to this time-tested medicine after finding relief for chronic migraines.
She set out and earned her Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from AIMC Berkeley to combine this personal experience with her long-standing interest in healing work.
Her treatments often address emotional well-being alongside physical imbalances and pain relief.
She also specialises in women’s health conditions, gynaecology, fertility support, endocrine and metabolic health, and, naturally, the treatment of headaches and migraines.
She tailors each treatment by pairing gentle needling with all facets of Chinese Medicine, including cupping, gua sha, and herbal medicine, to facilitate your body's return to balance.

Preparing for your acupuncture treatment includes wearing comfortable clothes, eating a light meal beforehand and avoiding stimulants like caffeine and alcohol.
Being hydrated and relaxed can also enhance your treatment experience.
Please avoid brushing your tongue for at least 24 hours before each visit. The color and texture of the tongue coating are important diagnostic tools in our team’s diagnostic process.
If you habitually brush your tongue to prevent bad breath, discuss this with your acupuncturist. Persistent bad breath may be a sign of stomach imbalance, and is important for your acupuncturist to know.
